# Understanding Your Patterns After a Scam

**An Enneagram-Informed Self-Help Course and Reflection Assessment**

### Course Introduction

After a scam, understanding yourself often feels difficult. You probably recognize familiar habits, and you probably also notice responses that appeared or grew stronger after the crime. Many survivors criticize themselves, withdraw, search repeatedly for reassurance, hide their distress, or put everyone else's needs ahead of their own. You deserve an opportunity to examine those experiences without turning them into another accusation against yourself.

You will use nine reflection themes to identify what needs attention and practice specific skills. The themes draw loosely from the Enneagram, a framework that describes nine personality patterns. You do not need to know your Enneagram type, agree with the framework, or adopt a personality label. Several themes will likely fit your experience, and some will not fit at all.

Your purpose is to understand what you do now, what need sits underneath it, and what you want to practice next. A pattern is something to investigate, not a verdict about your character. Your assessment answers describe your experience during a particular period, not the whole of who you are.

### Scope and Limits

This is an educational self-help course, not a validated psychological test or a treatment for PTSD. Enneagram research has mixed findings on reliability and validity. The original questions, scores, and exercises in this workbook have not been validated as an assessment of scam survivors. They organize reflection and suggest learning activities; they do not measure clinical recovery, diagnose a condition, establish personality type, or calculate the probability of another scam.

The SCARS Institute provides general education, guidance, and coaching. This workbook does not provide diagnosis or licensed therapy and does not replace individualized mental health care. Bring concerns about persistent symptoms or difficulty functioning to a qualified clinician. Nobody should use your score to decide your credibility, worth, eligibility for support, or responsibility for the crime.
