Bio
I have been a creator throughout my career. Creator of technologies, products, processes, and companies. In my early days I was a scientist at the original Atari helping to pioneer the PC industry. I helped invent processes like shopping carts and online advertising, and software download in 1982 at ROMOX. I helped create the longest lived piece of productivity software called FormTool. I even helped reinvent how Clinical Trials are now conducted with TrialMaster in 2000. And cofounded TigerDirect.com (originally call BLOC Development) in 1985. As an early roboticist back at Atari my passion eventually led to the creation of DroneCyclone in 2014. I have worked to help multitudes better utilize technologies, and apply them into unique solutions from the private sector through to local, state, and federal governments. I have helped identify what works from the flaws that hold it back, and have helped many make fortunes. As I continue my own businesses, I have long seen the vast emerging threats to our safety online. It was for this reason that I founded both an educational and support entity, and a new non-profit called the Society of Citizens Against Relationship Scams (SCARS), an NGO working to bring an end to global online fraud that now represents more than 100,000 victims of online fraud. I am also active in other areas of critical concern, such as Human Trafficking through my collaboration with Florida National University. I am also an advisor or on faculty of the University of South Florida and the Financial University fo Guangzhou. The world we live in is evolving rapidly. Our technologies are full of wonder, yet as always, the unforeseen leaves many scarred along the way. I hope that I can continue to play a role in the refinement of technologies and processes for the betterment of all. I hope to see you at one of my presentations in the future! An idea worth spreading
A curiosity has turned into a driving will to address global online scams, that led to the founding of an NGO specifically targeting the spread of romance and other scams known as SCARS. www.AgainstRomanceScams.org On a personal level, I am always looking for new challenges, new opportunities, new worlds to explore. I am passionate about the future, new technology (such as drones, robotics, 3D printing), marketing and publishing, ecommerce, and content. Throughout my career, I have held a unique focus on emerging product technologies while using content in all its forms to communicate this to the world. Now I have the pleasure of doing it for other enterprises. My TED story
As an engineer at Atari Inc., I helped create foundational technologies that power the on-line world today. As a first generation ecommerce pioneer, I helped to establish leading on-line resellers. As a Privately Funded Archaeologist, I have followed my own path in the exploration of our ancient world. I am a founder of companies such as TigerDirect, Romox, Omnicomm, WebFossil®, and others. In 1991 I became aware of the emergence of online scams, and have watched and combated it for 25 years, until in 2015 founded an NGO specifically focused on addressing the global problem called SCARS (www.AgainstRoamcenScams.org). We are currently working with government and private entities to eradicate this plague.
People don’t know I’m good at
I hold a Doctorate in Archaeology specialized on the Pre-columbian cultures of Costa Rica and Central America, and the upper Atacama. I worked closely with Dr. Ferraro in his exploration of the Diquis, Guayabo, and Costa Rica’s stone spheres.
