GCA and SCARS partner with special focus on awareness and protection of relationship-related scam victims

The Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) and the Society of Citizens Against Relationship Scams Inc. (SCARS) today reached a partnership to better protect victims of cyber crime in a context of scam boom globally. This partnership resonates with GCA’s mission to build programs, partnerships, and tools to make the connected world safer and more secure for all.

SCARS is a global nonprofit with expertise in fighting online scams and different kinds of fraud -such as phone-based, e-commerce related, message and email scams, impersonations-, and more importantly in educating the above-related victims and in offering them support and recovery services.

According to WEF estimates, only 0.05% of all cybercrime is prosecuted and scams are among the underreported. Cybersecurity awareness and working as closely as possible with victims, especially in the context of new scams, is crucial to address these challenges.

Both organizations share a global scope and are committed to reducing cyber risk and promoting resources and cybersecurity activities.

Through its educational activities, SCARS reaches 1.6 M victims per year. With GCA’s partnership with SCARS, we will assist an organization that is a primary educator about cybercrimes like relationship and love scams, lottery scams, phishing scams, pig butchering[1] , and investment scams.

“The partnership with SCARS is of great importance to GCA, as we not only share similar goals when it comes to cyber risk reduction, but it also allows us to know more on the most pressing issues, concerns, and needs of those who have directly been subject to cybercriminals. This partnership enables us to jointly help them, and empower them with concrete digital know-how, so they safely navigate the Internet,“ Marija Gjorgieva, Associate Partnerships Director said.

“SCARS is proud to become a partner of GCA and to constantly seek ways to expand awareness and support the victims of cybercrime. We look forward to supporting GCA’s efforts to create a safer internet and combat cyber criminality worldwide. For nearly a decade, we have been working on expanding the knowledge and skills needed to support victims anywhere, and working with GCA can provide a giant step forward to achieve that goal“, said Tim Mcguinness, the Founder and Director of SCARS.
